design on a dime!

Lately I have been looking and looking for some cute, vintage looking earrings that are "studs" but bigger.  I can't wear dangly earrings any more because Legend grabs them SO quickly and yanks them out of my ears. Ouch! So I though that studs would be a good solution. The problem was, I couldn't find any I liked!  The ones I did find were way too expensive or not quite what I was looking for, or way too small... So what did I do? Made my own!

I found some earring studs at the craft store, then went through a tin of all my Grandma Croxford's old buttons that I took along with some of her old fabric and supplies when she died.  I had a whole bunch I figured I'd never use that actually had a matching button, then also used some stuff I have bought in the past for crafts then didn't end up using.

These are some of the buttons that were in my Grandma's collection

and some of the things I've collected from other craft projects...

I used buttons that don't have holes, but have these hook things on the back
Then looked through Brian's tools and thought these would get the job done!
Then took off the back!

Then glued the earring backs on to the buttons! (I used hot glue but next time I'll probably use super glue, because they are pretty easy to pop off)

All the earrings I made! (it took me about 20 minutes not including the time I spent looking through the tin of buttons and my mess of craft leftovers.)  I should have been cleaning, but at least I was productive in SOME kind of way, right?

I'm planning to buy more of these white flower buttons (they cost $1.80 at Hobby Lobby) and spray paint them different colors so I have a variety to wear with different outfits!

From Grandma's collection...

Then, since they can't hang up with my dangly earrings, I cleaned out a baby food jar and put them all in there!  It will result in a little digging, but at least they are all in one place and easy to find!
